Chattanooga

We got the truck window fixed and went on our way to Chattanooga. Jack decided we should take State Hwy 64 so we went through a lot of construction and two way road. That got us into Chattanooga at peak traffic once we got to I24. I always get so nervous but we made it to the RV Park without any problems.
Saturday we went to Lookout Mountain which was a location of the Battles of Chattanooga. It was a beautiful drive with a lot of historic homes and
curvy roads. Lookout Mountain was famous for the "Battle Above the
Clouds" in Battles of Chattanooga. We went through Park Point which is a military park, the site of the battles. The views from the park would have been great if it were not for the over cast skies. Unfortunately we did not get any good photos from the area.
Sunday we went to Riverfront District where we were looking forward to walking the river walk. Well of course it was not open due to the Riverbend Festival as they were taking down all the booths from the festival. We took a walk around the Aquarium, Hunter Museum, and the walking bridge that goes across the Tennessee River. It was in the high 80's with the humidity of 70% so we did not walk too long.
We always seem to find interesting places. Being Father's Day, many of the restaurants were busy so we were looking for a place to have lunch. We saw this sport bar called "The Track" so we decided to stop as the Nascar race was starting. It was a beer bar that was big into racing but it was an old time bar. The owner was making wings on the grill but they would not be done for awhile so he suggest a chicken quesadilla. The gal tending bar did not know a thing about racing but she was a kick. We finished a few beers and our lunch and we were ready to walk out and the owner came out with some chicken wings for us to take with us. They were soooo good. So much fun!
Last night we saw our first rain. There were strong thunderstorms in this area which did cool off the temps but it also brought in heavy humidity. Some storms are expected again this afternoon.
We head out tomorrow for Crossville, TN. Jack has some old friends there we are going to see.

Corp of Engineers Parks

We have not found cooler weather yet. After leaving Fredericksburg, we headed to Lavon Lake which is 30 miles northeast of Dallas. We stayed in a Corp of Engineering Park (COE) at Clear Lake Campground. What a great park and great deal! All COE parks will give seniors with a Senior Pass half off the regular price so we paid $9 a night. We spent our time relaxing and enjoying the view. We left that campground on Friday and headed for Texarkana to another COE park at Piney Point Campground onWright Patman Lake.
That is where our adventure began. First our GPS put us on the wrong side of the lake so we had problems locating the park. When we arrived at our site, the electricity was not working. It took us about an hour to get someone to get it going so we got settled overlooking the lake. On Saturday morning after several circuit breaker pops, we decided to move. With temps in the high 90's and humidity in the high 60's, we needed air conditioning. We found a great spot with lots of pine trees, lots of privacy and room. Well that was where our challenge began. As we were backing into the site, we had a very tight turn. With a short bed truck and the sharp turn, we broke the back window of the truck. What a mess. Safety glass all over the road, truck bed and back seat. Good thing for insurance as we hope to get it fixed tomorrow if the window is available locally.
A thank you to our full time friends, Kathy and Dave Bennett for introducing us to the COE parks.

Left Arizona

Just wanted to let you know we left Arizona on Tuesday, May 31. We do not have any specific plans this summer but we did need to get out of the heat. At least that is want Jack told me. The first night we spent in Los Cruces, New Mexico which was hot and dusty; the second night we spent in Fort Stockton, Texas which was extremely windy. The RV rocked all night. (get your minds out of the gutter) We headed for Fredericksburg, Texas where we are spending the weekend. It is in the high 90's just like in Arizona. So I am not sure why we are here. We took a walk in town today and had lunch. Jack bought me a Raggetty Ann Doll. I just love it. It brings back memories of my childhood.
So far everything has gone well. The new truck is so comfy but the dogs have not yet figured it out as it is set up different. Oh well.....they will get by.
Jack is keeping a blog this year also. His blog will be a different spin than mine. His blog is
drivinthedoghouse.blogspot.com. Check it out.
